SoFi workshop 2026

We are happy to invite you to an in-person SoFi workshop in Baden, Switzerland, taking place 13–15 April 2026.

The workshop introduces the theoretical foundations of PMF and shows how these ideas can be applied in SoFi. The focus is on learning by doing: participants are encouraged to bring their own datasets (or work with provided examples) and apply PMF step by step to questions that are directly relevant to their work.

The format is interactive and beginner-friendly, with plenty of room for questions, discussion, and guided hands-on sessions.

SoFi Users’ Meeting 2026

We are happy to announce our next virtual SoFi Users’ Meeting, taking place 9./10. February 2026.

Join us to explore the latest SoFi updates and features and share your own experiences and results with the community. The meeting offers a space for discussion, user presentations, and exchange of practical tips, making it a great opportunity to learn from others and get inspired for your own work.

The event is online and free to attend, welcoming both new and experienced users.

Featured research highlight: impact of COVID-19 related policies on air quality

G. Chen’s study about the impact of commercial cooking on air pollution has been featured in Nature Magazine’s Research Highlight!

Their research shows that COVID-19 restrictions temporarily reduced PM1 pollution in London. However, when dining options such as “Eat Out to Help Out” encouraged restaurants to reopen, emissions from cooking increased significantly. To analyse this complex aerosol data, the team relied on SoFi Pro. SoFi Pro allowed them to decompose high-resolution chemical measurements into distinct source contributions, revealing how everyday activities like restaurant cooking influence urban air quality.

New Publication: Real-Time Source Apportionment with SoFi RT using the AXA setup

We’re proud to share the newest publication introducing SoFi RT, which applies the novel AXA approach for total PM source apportionment: “Implementation of real-time source apportionment approaches using the ACSM–Xact–Aethalometer (AXA) setup with SoFi RT: the Athens case study”.

This study marks the first-ever application of the AXA setup integrated with SoFi RT for real-time source apportionment. By integrating multiple instruments into one coherent analysis pipeline, SoFi RT opens new possibilities for faster, more comprehensive source apportionment — supporting better science, decision-making, and pollution mitigation. Importantly, the results compare well with the traditional rolling PMF approach, demonstrating that real-time analysis can deliver both speed and reliability without compromising scientific robustness.

SoFi Workshop 2025

With great pleasure, we announce that there will be an in-person workshop in Baden, Switzerland. The workshop takes place 04.02. – 06.02.2025. Participants will learn all about the fundamentals and advanced applications of PMF and SoFi and have the chance to work on their own (or provided) dataset and receive instant expert support for hands-on problem-solving.
